In workshop 3 we heard from people working in a number of different Higher Education and Public Sector institutions. From both the discussion and presentations it was clear that these large organisations enable projects to happen at a scale which is no doubt the envy of many social innovation startups. However, with the benefits of scale also comes drawbacks, the most obvious being the slow pace at which organisational processes at this scale seem to work. This is problematic in the context of testing new approaches to service delivery, where speed and lightness of touch is an important quality. I wonder what strategies can be used to help retain an agile approach whilst operating within organisations whose processes and perspective is oriented to much longer time periods (years rather than months)?
